Sustainability in the Eurocash Group

For more than 30 years, the Eurocash Group has been one of the largest employers in Poland and a key distributor of FMCG. The company supports local stores and communities by emphasizing its responsibility to employees, customers and consumers. Our ESG targets are clearly defined by the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy.

Pillars of the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy

Responsible distributor

As the largest wholesale distributor of FMCG products in Poland, we constantly improve our processes throughout the supply chain, taking care to reduce the mass of waste generated.

Our actions have a real impact on reducing the negative impact on the environment, both ourselves and our business partners. In 2022, as one of the first companies in Poland, we joined the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative — a global prestigious organization that enables companies to set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the latest developments in climate science.

Decarbonisation of Eurocash S.A. Group

Eurocash Group, as one of the first companies in Poland, joined the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative in 2022, under which we committed to:

reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 47.7% by 2030 vs 2020 in the area of our operation,

to oblige our largest suppliers to set CO2 reduction targets for themselves.

How do we do it?

We implement measures contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in our business:

We invest in renewable energy sources;

We invest in energy-efficient systems and equipment in our facilities;

We optimize fuel consumption in transport:

  • 95% of the passenger fleet consists of hybrid vehicles

  • logistics projects contributing to the reduction of kilometers traveled (Hybrid, Backhaul)

Recycling and reuse of packaging

The Eurocash Group implements a deposit system, recommending full participation to stores regardless of their area. This is an important step not only for further business and profitability, especially for smaller outlets, but also in the context of achieving ESG objectives. The deposit system supports responsible waste management, reduces the environmental footprint and strengthens consumer confidence in sustainable brands. Bearing in mind the diverse needs and possibilities of stores — from the smallest to large retail spaces — we offer flexible solutions: both manual and automatic collection. This makes the system accessible and effective for all, while supporting ecology, society and responsible management.

We, Employees

As one of the largest employers in Poland, we support a diverse and inclusive work environment. We care about the safety and development of employees by offering them a clear career path, a rich choice of training and funding for education. For more than a decade, we have also run a scholarship program for children of employees and members of the Franchisee Group. We build a culture of commitment and support the social, sports and health activities of people associated with Eurocash.

We attach great importance to corporate governance. For the comfort and safety of our employees and business partners, we have created an anonymous line of trust.

Balanced product

The quality and safety of products throughout the production chain is our priority. We make sure that the products we supply are produced in a sustainable way within the framework of environmental impact, with full respect for human rights. On the one hand, we guarantee the full availability of products, on the other hand, we make every effort to keep the percentage of wasted food as low as possible.

Conscious Retailer

Our mission is to support local store owners throughout Poland in building their competitiveness on the market. We provide them with innovative tools and solutions, as well as constantly improve the offer conditions from the largest manufacturers. We make sure that store owners and their staff have access to knowledge, both business and related to responsible business conduct.

What is sustainability and why does it matter to retailers?

Sustainable development is a concept that implies conducting business in a responsible manner towards the environment, society and the economy.

It answers the question of how to grow a business today, without limiting the possibilities of future generations. In practice sustainable development strategy means combining economic growth with concern for people, natural resources and corporate governance. Increasingly, it is becoming an integral part of the long-term management of the company.

Sustainable Development Goals and Action Strategy

The objectives of ESG (sustainable development) include reducing the negative impact of operations on the environment, managing the supply chain responsibly, creating safe and inclusive jobs and supporting local communities.

Sustainable development — examples from the Eurocash Group. Among the activities aimed at practical implementation The concept of sustainable development Among other things, the Eurocash Group continued to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2023, CO₂ emissions were almost 30% lower than in 2020, and the target is to reduce by 47.7% by 2030. The Group has also increased the share of hybrid cars in the passenger car fleet to around 92%. These are just examples from a wide range of activities undertaken by the Group. We report our non-financial activities in our annual social responsibility reports in accordance with GRI principles.

The concept of sustainable development allows organizations to set clear priorities and measurable goals, as well as effectively integrate environmental, social and management activities. Well planned sustainable development policy increases the company's resilience to market and regulatory changes and strengthens the trust of employees, customers, suppliers and business partners.
